RECIPE: ST NICHOLAS APPLES
For those with a sweet tooth
Bring a little Christmas market feeling into your home. The popular classic can be easily and quickly made yourself. Instead of food coloring, we use a natural color in this recipe: beetroot juice. Because an apple with red cheeks doesn't need a lot of extra color. This is how it works:
Ingredients:
(for 4 apples)
4 Karneval[S] apples
300 g sugger
2 EL lemon juice
3 EL water
2 EL beetroot juice
100 g white couverture
4 wooden skewer
1 baking paper
Preparing:
Wash the apples, remove the stalk, dry them and put them in the fridge for an hour. Then stick the wooden skewers in the style pit.
Making:
Put the sugar, lemon juice and water in a cooking pot and heat, stirring constantly. As soon as the sugar has dissolved and the mixture begins to boil, take the cooking pot off the stove and stir in the beetroot juice. Then dip the skewered apples one after the other in the sugar paste and completely cover, let them drain briefly and place on baking paper to dry.
Chocolate bottom:
After about 1 hour, when the sugar has hardened a little, prepare the couverture. To do this, slowly(!) melt the couverture in a bowl over a water bath and dip the underside of the apples in the white couverture. Then put the apples back on the baking paper and let them cool down.
Our tip:
Karneval[S] is particularly suitable for the recipe because of its sour taste, so the apple itself does not become too sweet.
